That is the clinical evaluation of my four-day stint at Epilepsy Monitoring Unit at the Dartmouth–Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. Multifocal Cerebral Dysfunction. The evaluation notes that I have an “increased risk of seizures” but “no seizures have been captured thus far.”
There’s also a bunch of jargon about my “Abnormal Interictal Activity.” Stuff like the following:
“T3, F8, CZ, and CZC4C3 sharp waves and rare 1-4 second bursts of theta slowing that are rarely sharply contoured were seen both independently (L>>R) and simultaneously over the left and right hemispheres with a temporal predominance, primarily during drowsiness and sleep but also seen during the wakeful state. Rarely following vertex waves brief 1-4 second bursts of CZ sharp waves were seen.”
I don’t know what any of that means. But I’ll find out more at my follow-up appointment later this month. Thankfully, my partner is going to come with me. It’s so easy to space out or be intimidated when one is alone in a doctor’s office. Or in the hospital with three doctors, one resident, and a med student peering down at you.
I’ll keep you updated, dear reader! And if any of you are neurologists, feel free to translate for me.
