May is Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) awareness month. I was diagnosed with EDS in 2015. It’s something I’ve had my whole life. In retrospect, all of the injuries, pain, and illnesses I had make sense.
I’m fortunate to have some great healthcare providers, but it’s a struggle to find providers who are educated about EDS. The one person who has been undoubtedly in my corner for over a decade is my brilliant physical therapist Teresa Swango at Lahey Health in Lexington, MA. She and the PT crew there are outstanding.
I have many challenges ahead of me, including multiple surgeries to repair damaged joint and tendons. Overwhelming is definitely accurate sentiment.
