New diagnosis: cuboid syndrome. I’ve been walking around for a couple of weeks with a subluxed (AKA dislocated) cuboid bone. The cuboid bone connects the foot to the ankle.
A few weeks ago, my right ankle gave out when I was going down the stairs leading from my home to my driveway. There are four steps. I was careful, as my left leg is still recovering from April’s kneecap replacement and MPFL reconstruction. I say “giving out,” but sprain and twist are also apt.
My right ankle has been giving out since I was a teen. I vividly remember the pain I felt when I walking down those ridiculous steps at Fenway Park. The sensation in my ankle was awful. Stabilisation surgery for the right ankle is on deck with the doctor who performed the joint stabilisation surgery on my left foot. It’s all part of the fun of having Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.
Today, my excellent physical therapist took a look at the the right ankle because it’s affecting my left knee’s recovery. That’s when I learned that this cuboid bone was in a state of subluxation. She worked on it and was able to get it back in place. Of course, I was like, “Cubone?!?”
Fingers (and toes) crossed that it will heal (heel? 😉😉😉) soon. And stay that way for a while.
