On Monday, I had my two-week follow-up appointment with the orthopedic surgeon for my kneecap replacement/MPFL reconstruction. I’m happy to share that it went well! I’m now free of staples and stitches.
I had been anxious about the staple removal, but it wasn’t too bad. I like to think that I have a high pain threshold, but I’m wicked squeamish when it comes to people touching my knees. I become like a fainting goat. I distracted myself with Pokémon Go while the staples were removed.
The surgeon prescribed physical therapy, which I will start this week with a visiting physical therapist. I’ll transition from at-home physical therapy (PT) to PT with my regular physical therapist, the wonderful Teresa Swango at Lahey Health in Lexington, MA. The surgeon gave me an exercise to start on with my left leg. I’m really looking forward to getting into shape!
Here are some Hospital Glam photos, followed by some MODERATELY GROSS PHOTOS of my knee. Do no scroll too far if you don’t want to see my post-surgery knee. My t-shirt was created by Annie Segarra. Hair cut and color by Sonya of Widow’s Peak Salon in Andover, MA.
